朱加个展《我们是完美的 II》:影像艺术的先锋探索

(《国际艺术新闻网》记者王蕾、实习记者 Yuanx Li 北京报道)北京香格纳于2024年11月14日隆重推出了艺术家朱加的个展《我们是完美的 II》。展览展出的五件作品作为朱加2008年上海首展《我们是完美的》的续章,此次展览展示了艺术家创作的系列影像装置及两幅画作,利用舞台化、戏剧化、脸谱化的宣传形式,延续并深化了他对影像艺术的探索,呈现出一种来自现实的非现实感。开幕当天,艺术名流、著名学者、资深藏家、艺术工作人员及爱好者近百人齐聚北京香格纳画廊,欣赏、解读朱加对固化概念进行概念化阐释的新作。

ShanghART Beijing proudly launched the solo exhibition “We Are Perfect Again” by artist Zhu Jia on November 14, 2024. As a continuation of his 2008 Shanghai debut “We Are Perfect,” this exhibition features five works, including a series of video installations and two paintings. These works utilize theatrical, dramatic, and stylized presentations, deepening Zhu Jia’s exploration of video art and evoking a surreal sense grounded in reality.On the opening day, nearly 100 art luminaries, renowned scholars, seasoned collectors, art professionals, and enthusiasts gathered at ShanghART Gallery in Beijing to appreciate and interpret Zhu Jia’s conceptual reinterpretation of entrenched ideas.

朱加1988年毕业于中央美术学院,现工作和生活于洛杉矶和北京。朱加自1980年代末开始从事影像艺术创作,成为中国录像与摄影艺术的先锋之一。从早期的早期影像单路视频到近年的多屏影像装置,朱加刻意使用中性简洁的叙事语言,通过对舞台场景和人物角色的主观塑造,将对历史时空和社会现实的观察与认知置于模糊的临界状态,以此激发和探测观者在心理层面的微妙变化。

Zhu Jia graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1988. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles and Beijing. Since the late 1980s, Zhu Jia has been a pioneer in video and photographic art in China. From his early single-channel videos to his recent multi-screen installations, Zhu has deliberately employed a neutral and concise narrative style. Through the subjective construction of stage scenes and characters, he places the observation and recognition of historical time, space, and social reality in a blurred critical state, thereby stimulating and probing the subtle psychological changes in viewers.

在展览开幕的第二天,11月15日下午,在《我们是完美的 II》展览现场,近 20 多人参加了朱加与美国卡内基艺术博物馆策展人瑞恩·井上(Ryan Inouye)的对谈。对谈以围绕自1990年代以来贯穿于朱加创作中的关键理念、主题和手法展开,深入探讨此次个展的新作《我们是完美的 II》。

On the afternoon of November 15th, around 3:30 PM, more than 20 people gathered at the “We Are Perfect Again” exhibition site for a conversation between artist Zhu Jia and Ryan Inouye, curator at the Carnegie Museum of Art. The discussion centered on the key concepts, themes, and techniques that have been integral to Zhu Jia’s work since the 1990s, offering a deep dive into the featured in this solo exhibition.

香格纳画廊创始人劳伦斯·何浦林(Lorenz Helbling)介绍 ,展览主题“我们是完美的”由艺术家朱加自主提出。策展团队选择艺术家后,由艺术家根据自己的创作理念决定展览的主题。展览结合了新的作品和几年前的作品,展示了艺术家从绘画到录像,在不同媒介下的创作探索。这次展览分为两个展厅:一个展厅展示新作,另一个展厅展示以前的作品。这种沉浸式的感观体验很有新意,通过时代的迭加与作品的连续性,引发观者对“理想”,“完美”,“过去”、“今天”与”未来“的思考 。

Lorenz Helbling, founder of ShanghART Gallery, explained that the theme of the exhibition”We Are Perfect” was conceived by artist Zhu Jia himself. After selecting the artist, the curatorial team let Zhu Jia to determine the exhibition’s theme based on his creative vision. This exhibition combines new works with pieces from several years ago, showcasing Zhu Jia’s explorations across different mediums, from painting to video.The exhibition is divided into two halls: one displaying the new works, and the other showcasing earlier pieces. This immersive sensory experience is innovative, utilizing the layering of eras and the continuity of works to prompt viewers to reflect on “ideal,” “perfection,” “past,” “present,” and “future.”

在开幕当天,艺术家,策展人,当代艺术收藏家施勇说到: “《我们是完美的》第一次展览是在上海举行的,我也去看过。朱加这次的作品是对《我们是完美的》第一部重新连接,反映了曾经过往的那个状态。这次展览不仅截取了完美的画面,还展示了休息部分,揭示了完美与休息之间的差异。过去与现在的差距在展览中得以呈现,让我们反思理想状态与现实之间的对比和追求。回顾过去,我们曾认为的真实状态,现在看来可能有些奇怪。人们应该反思过去和现在的差异,以及对理想状态的追求”。

On the opening day, artist, curator, and contemporary art collector Shi Yong said, “The first ‘We Are Perfect’ exhibition was held in Shanghai, which I also attended. Zhu Jia’s new works reconnect with the first exhibition, reflecting that previous state. This exhibition not only captures the perfect moments but also reveals the intermission, highlighting the contrast between perfection and intermission. The gap between past and present is displayed in the exhibition, prompting us to reflect on the contrast and pursuit between ideal and reality. Looking back, what we once considered a true state may now seem odd. People should reflect on the differences between past and present, and the pursuit of an ideal state.”

艺术评论家、策展人董冰峰表示 ,艺术家常常通过几十年不懈努力探讨突出一个核心的主题。例如,朱加自1994年起在录像艺术中持续探讨“重复”的概念,并不断展现丰富的变化。我们看到这一代艺术家,如王广义和胡介鸣,他们的艺术主题也会探讨“重复”。这与他们的成长及历史记忆密切相关。这些集体记忆既带有特定的社会主义的视觉美学,又采用新观念与新媒介手段使其当代化,但主题始终未变。

Art critic and curator Dong Bingfeng remarked that artists often dedicate decades to exploring a central theme. For instance, Zhu Jia has been examining the concept of “repetition” in video art since 1994, showcasing its rich variations. We observe that contemporary artists like Wang Guangyi and Hu Jieming also delve into themes of “repetition.” This connection is deeply rooted in their upbringing and historical memories. These collective memories, infused with a specific socialist visual aesthetic, have been contemporized through new concepts and media, yet the core themes remain unchanged.

《我们是完美的 II》展览通过对不同时代的叠加和作品的连续性,营造了一种独特的沉浸式感官体验。在主厅呈现一幅绘画作品《我们是完美的II》与多路频道四通道影像装置《我们是完美的》。四块巨大的落地屏幕同时播放时长近25分钟的视频,视频内容相同,重复的台词“我们是完美的”配合强劲而激昂的音乐,给观众带来了强烈的视觉和听觉冲击。演员们同步的表情和短暂的停顿,以及地板的镜面效果,进一步增强了作品的视觉吸引力和时间感、空间感的延展性。朱加巧妙地利用多频道多通道影像装置,以及次厅展出的《我们是完美的II》一幅画作和《我们是完美的》《彩色气球》两件早期影像同名作品,深刻探讨了“完美”的概念。这种重复的影像和声音,使整个展览变成一个思考和反思的空间。

朱加对历史时期和社会现实的敏锐洞察,以及他对影像艺术的独特解读,丰富了中国当代影像艺术的多样性,为全球艺术界提供了新的视角和思路。这种先锋探索不仅展示了艺术家深厚的创作功力,也引发了观众在心理层面的微妙变化和思考,为艺术提供了一种新的可能性。

The “We Are Perfect Again” exhibition creates a unique immersive sensory experience through the layering of different eras and the continuity of works. In the main hall, a painting titled “We Are Perfect Again” and a multi-channel video installation of the same name are presented. Four large floor-to-ceiling screens simultaneously play a 25-minute video with a single line, “We are perfect,” accompanied by powerful and uplifting music, delivering a strong visual and auditory impact to the audience. The synchronized expressions and brief pauses of the actors, along with the mirrored floor effect, further enhance the visual appeal and the extensibility of the sense of time and space in the work. Zhu Jia skillfully employs multi-channel video installations, as well as the painting “We Are Perfect  Again” and the early video works “We Are Perfect” and “Colorful Balloons” in the secondary hall, to deeply explore the concept of “perfection” . This repetition of images and sounds transforms the entire exhibition into a space for contemplation and reflection.

Zhu Jia’s keen insight into historical periods and social realities, along with his unique interpretation of video art, enriches the diversity of contemporary Chinese video art and offers new perspectives and ideas to the global art scene. This avant-garde exploration not only demonstrates the artist’s profound creative prowess but also evokes subtle psychological changes and reflections in the viewers, providing a new possibility for art.
